Adoption Trauma

There are thousands of different long term effects for adoptees, however, it varies from adoptee to adoptee. In the book Adopting Older Children by Victor Groza, Stephanie Bosco-Ruggiero, and Gloria R. Wassell,  the authors spoke about how trauma is one of the biggest factors adoptees face.

Many adoptees' parents think that if they adopt a baby that they will never be affected by birth trauma. They will not experience any of the feelings that other adoptees would feel. That is a false assumption that many people make. When the baby grows up the experience of separation does affect the adoptee and may create special needs for the adoptee. The child may feel like they have no way of verbally expressing how they feel or their emotions.
